Why we are donating a portion of our profits

It's The Right Thing To Do

They say 'travel changes you'. It's true. We've been fortunate enough to see the world, meet amazing people, experience different cultures, and taste food from around the world.  The multiple adventures left its mark on us and impacted our world view, so we want to do some good in the world.

It seems like every year has been more chaotic than the previous year. We're naive enough to think we can change it and we believe that change starts with us. In other words, we want to have a positive impact and do some good for people in less fortunate parts of the world.

In addition, we didn't want to be 'slacktivists'.  We wanted to put our money where our mouths are and this was the only way we could achieve our goal.

15% OF PROFIT

We will donate 15% of profits for any To Live And Dine® branded products sold through our website. In other words, we'll be donating 15% of profits if we sell anything with To Live And Dine® on it.  It's as simple as that.  We'll increase it to 20% if our charity drive turns out successful.

Donation breakdown

What Charities Gets What

The first 5% will go to non-profits that support "feeding the hungry" type of charities and we will designate our donations can only be used to purchase food or the like. We will specifically state it cannot be used to pay salaries of any employee or other operating expenses for the organization.  We're looking to donate to Mercy Corps.

The second 5% will go to non-profits that advocate for "women's rights" around the world and we will designate our donations can only be used for that specific purpose. We will specifically state it cannot be used to pay salaries of any employee or other operating expenses for the organization.  We're looking to donate to Equality Now.

The last 5% will go to the Children's Hospital.  We will designate our donations can only be used to buy toys, party supplies for the children's birthday parties, hiring "Super-heroes" to cheer up the children, and the like. We will specifically state it cannot be used to pay salaries of any employee or other operating expenses for the organization.  We're looking to donate to Children's Hospital in different cities.

purpose

Why These Causes

Women's Rights
We seen our mothers sacrifice a lot throughout the years. We have sisters who work hard everyday to achieve their full potential. We have grandmothers who grew up in old sexist cultures.  Therefore, we understand a woman's struggle in today's society whether it's equal pay, obtaining a driver license, or the harassment due to their choice of clothing. That's why we chose women's rights.
Feeding the Hungry
We have traveled to many different parts of the world. We have seen economically challenged people scratching to make a honest living. We've seen kids begging for food to have something in their stomachs. It's always heartbreaking to witness. We feel people shouldn't go hungry.  That's why we chose to help feed the homeless.  Plus, we're a food blog.
Children's Hospital
The Children's Hospital is a personal one for us.  One of our owner's sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was 4 years old.  He was 5 years old when this occurred.  He still remember those long nights in the Children's Hospital of Orange County (i.e., CHOC) watching her go through chemo-therapy.  To this day, he can still replay his parents' and his heartache watching her suffer.  He always wanted to thank CHOC for helping his sister live through her situation.
Why All Three Causes?
It's simple.  We couldn't make up our minds.  We found all three causes to be equally important to us. Therefore, we found a compromise by helping all three causes.
