Tokyo’s Omoide Yokocho is also known as Piss Alley. It’s one of the less pretentious places to have a drink and eat in Shinjuku.

The good thing about Piss Alley is the name doesn’t reflect how the alley smells. The tightly configured area is filled with endless izakayas, yakinikus, ramen, udon, and yakitori shops. It smells like a good time versus smelling like piss. It’s hard to find a seat at one of the cramp shops since they tend to be filled with ‘salary’ men.

The key thing is to come really late at night. It’s much easier to find a seat. In addition, there’s Albatross, which is the only actual bar in Omoide Yokocho. The bar is famous for it’s large chandelier and it’s art gallery on the 2nd floor. There’s a 300 YEN table charge, but the drinks are about 500 YEN (i.e., approximately 4.50 USD).

I definitely enjoyed Omoide Yokocho more than I enjoyed Golden Cai. I think it was the ability to eat and drink. Golden Cai was just a row of bars after bars. Omoide Yokocho offered food and drinks. It was a little more diverse too.
