Kitchen 24 & Hollywood’s Diner Scene

My friends and I decided to go check out the Chicken & Rice truck on a Tuesday afternoon.  Unfortunately, I had a feeling the truck won’t be there and it turned out I was right.  We ended at Kitchen 24.

We decided to check out Kitchen 24 since it was fairly close.  Kitchen 24 is kind of hard to spot off of Cahuenga.  It’s on the same street side as District 13 but across the way.  Kitchen 24 has a kind of old diner appeal to it but with a modern twist.

It totally screams trendy/hipster and it doesn’t surprised me since it’s located in Hollywood.  It’s basically a hipster/Hollywood Johnny Rockets/Denny’s with some organic ingredients.  The service was good but it wasn’t exceptional.

Now, the comida.  I had the following items:

  1. K24 Burger – This is pretty much a pound of food.  I asked to add bacon to it for $2.  It was a decent burger.  It was cooked to my instructions but there was something missing from the burger to make it good.  It didn’t wow me kind of like when you see a reality star in person.  Oh it’s just you, Kim Kardashian.

  2. Chicken Wings – I could tell right off the bat that the chicken wings were very heavily influenced by Asian flavors.  It was pretty sweet.  It had a mixture of teriyaki and fish sauce marination.  I thought it was decent but it wasn’t the greatest wings I’ve tasted.  I didn’t like the ranch that came with it.  It didn’t mesh well with the Asian flavors.  It’s kind of like seeing Al Sharpton at a Republican Convention.

  3. Mac & Cheese – This was probably my favorite out of the 3 dishes I tried.  It was very creamy and rich.  We added bacon in the Mac & Cheese and the macaroni was very soft.  What doesn’t taste good with bacon?

Overall, Kitchen 24 is a decent diner with food similar to Denny’s.  It seems like most of the reviews are from patrons who dined here after a night of heavy drinking.  The food has to be pretty terrible if drunk people don’t think it’s disgusting.  What doesn’t taste good after a night of drinking?!
