Babbo & Mario Batali

I was walking to another Italian spot but did a quick search and stumbled upon Babbo.  Babbo was a very upscale restaurant in that everyone was dressed up and even the bar had reserved signs.  I didn’t realized how upscale it was until I got the “up and down” look from the hostess and wait staff as I walked in with my hoodie, jeans and Jordans.

I didn’t even realized it was a Mario Batali restaurant and has one Michelin star.  My bad.  There seems to be a pattern of me coming under dressed at fine dining establishments.  I’m one of those obnoxious diners who like to take pictures of food during my meals to post on social media then blog about it.  I critique the food as if I had years of professional cooking experience.  What makes me qualified to evaluate food?  I have over 30 years of eating experience, motherfucker!

The overall service was good.  The bartender was very helpful and had suggestions on the menu.  He was quick with the drink refills and cleaning the bread crumbs.  I personally didn’t like him cleaning the bread crumbs because I was going to save that for dessert since I could barely afford the meal.

Anyway, I tried the following items:

  1. Lobster Spaghetti – I thought this was mediocre.  The Lobster was overcooked and didn’t have much flavor.  The pasta wasn’t very chewy and came out kind of cold.  The sauce was watery and I didn’t even taste the tomato.  It wasn’t doing it’s job like a prostitute who came just to cuddle.

  2. Beef Carpaccio – This was pretty good.  The sauce was really nice.  It reminded me of some kind of aioli sauce and the beef was pretty lean.  It didn’t have the marbling I would have liked but it was still tasty.  It was a bit of a tease like getting a lap dance at a strip club.

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with Babbo.  I expected more from a Michelin star restaurant.  It’s like how a wife expects to get diamonds on a 1 year anniversary but only ends up getting an anniversary card and a telephone call from her husband who is working late.
