Vanessa’s Dumpling House is probably the cheapest place you could get breakfast in New York. Let alone a meal. It’s totally worth the trip down to Chinatown.
I spent no more than $6 for breakfast and that’s unheard of in New York. It’s your typical Asian service where they don’t really care for you to be there, which I find somewhat endearing in a way. It reminds me when I’m at my parents’ place trying to steal toilet paper.
Now, onto the food. I had the following items:
- Chive & Pork Fried Dumplings (#1) – This was pretty damn good. For $1, you get 4 dumplings. It has a good amount of flavor and not greasy. The burn parts add a crispiness to the dumplings and well worth the whole dollar I spent. Watch out now, Vanessa. You got a big spender in the house. How about a comp room in one of those famous New York alleys?
- Wonton w/ Spicy Sauce (#8) – For $4.50, you get 8 wontons. It comes with cilantro and green onions. I thought this was very flavorful, light, and spicy as hell. It’s definitely a must try and it had a major kick to it. I was literally sweating as I ate it. It was pretty embarrassing cause there was a cute girl sitting two seats over from me. I was trying to play it cool. However, I couldn’t stop sweating so I went to buy a soda and grab some napkins to wipe my sweat. I ended up finishing the soda then buying another one as she looked at me in disgust.
Overall, I’m definitely coming back to Vanessa’s the next time I’m in NYC and it’s on my NYC must stop spots along with the Halal Guys, Prince St. Pizza and Totto Ramen. Lastly, they treat me like my parents as in they don’t care if I’m there or not.
