Xi’an Famous Foods & Hand Made Noodles

Xi’an Famous Foods is pretty popular in New York.  I’m a big noodle person.  Actually, I’m a huge food person.  I originally wanted to try the OG spot in East Village but due to where I was at during the day I opted for the Midtown location.

There’s a decent line when I got there around 2pm, but it moved fairly fast.  The to-go line is in front and the dine-in line was in the back where there is a 2nd kitchen.  There are little tables in the back that are pretty small.  It took two seats for me to fit both my butt cheeks.

I ate here twice and practically ordered the same thing.  Therefore, it gives me the authority to rate Xi’an off of two items that are practically the same.  It’s like how Yelpers do their Yelp reviews.  I go to a restaurant, order one thing off the menu (i.e., preferably a salad or free chips and salsa) and make a judgement off of that one item.  The WHOLE restaurant will get a 1 or 5 star based on that one item.

Why even order one of their specialties or items that they’re known for?  Because that’s how we Yelpers work!  We give a bad review and threaten restaurants with that bad review when we get our first Yelp Elite badge.  That Yelp Elite badge gives us the privileged of being considered food critics.

Now, the food.

  1. N2 – The N2, which is the Spicy and Tingly Beef Noodles.  The noodles are made fresh and thick.  The flavors reminded me of Taiwanese Beef Noodles, but with a tangy/sour taste to it and without the soup.  There wasn’t enough beef in my order.  I personally like to have a piece of beef in every bite I take but that’s just personal preference.  The cabbage tasted like Kim Chi.  Item number one of the review from the Supreme Leader of Yelp.

  2. Ns2 – This the Spicy and Tingly Beef Noodles in soup.  I know.  I got totally adventurous with this one.  It has the same flavors as N2 except the soup had a sour taste to it.  The same level of texture to the bowl and the tender slices of beef.  Item number two of the review from the Supreme Leader of Yelp.

Overall, Xi’an is definitely another staple of New York like the Halal Guys.  It’s definitely a must try if you’re ever in Manhattan.  It’s definitely a cheap meal in a City where everything is over-priced like a pair of aftermarket Jordan 11s.  For what it is, I thought it was pretty good for the price like getting wasted off of box wine.

Summary

Xi’an Famous Foods is pretty popular in New York. There’s a decent line when I got there, but it moved fairly fast. Fresh hand made noodles and I suggest N2 or Ns2 so you could go on Yelp and write a 1 or 5 star review based off of it.
