Joe’s Pizza. It’s considered by many to be one of the best pizza spots in NYC and they’re pretty much open 24 hours. Joe’s served their pizza by the slice and with the typical NYC attitude, which is “Leaving or Staying” after you order.
I personally find the NYC attitude appealing since I can be a pretty rude mofo myself. Don’t like it? Well, tell someone who gives a f*ck.
Anyway, Joe’s Pizza was on my list of pizza spots to try along with a few other notable spots like your mom’s house. I realized late night pizza in NYC is equivalent to LA’s late night taco spots. It’s great to get after a night of drinking. It provides a way to sober up or moan about the girl/guy who turned you down at the watering hole.
Now, I got two slices, which were the Flat Pepperoni and the Sicilian:
- Flat Pepperoni – The signature NYC flat pizza where you fold. The slice was less than $3 and was about 12″ long. It was pretty good with the sauce providing the perfect tangy after taste. The dough was chewy, the cheese wasn’t as gooey as I like, and the crust had a decent amount of crunch to it. It’s perfect for eating or b*tch slapping a person in the face.
Thin Pepperoni Pizza - Sicilian – This was decent but a lot better than any Sicilian pie in Cali. That’s for sure. The cheese and sauce ratio was good together but it wasn’t good with the thicker Sicilian dough. I thought it needed more sauce and cheese. IMO, it should be drenched in cheese and sauce. The dough wasn’t fluffy and a bit dense. It could have been because it wasn’t fresh. The reason I say that is because I’m comparing it to Prince St Pizza‘s Sicilian. Now, that’s a perfect Sicilian. This? Not so perfect like how IG models take pictures from different angles.
Sicilian Pizza
Overall, Joe’s Pizza flat pie is pretty good but I wasn’t a fan of their Sicilian. I would just stick with the flat slices next time. Would I return to Joe’s? Not until I try the other notable spots to determine which is the best pizza parlor in NYC. King of New York. Frank White, son!
