Artichoke Basille’s Pizza & Crab Pizza

Artichoke Basille’s Pizza (ABP) is easily one of the best New York pizzeria.  There’s multiple locations around New York but the best location is the one in East Village.

There’s always a damn line.  It’s open late, so perfect for the late night carb load after your watering hole.  It’s a small pizza parlor with the typical red bricks; there’s pizza boxes lined up against the wall.  It’s how you imagine a New York pizza parlor without the attitude.  It’s a nice change like imagining New York without Donald Trump.

Crab Pizza for three (i.e., me)

Anyway, the official late night spot I go to when my favorite Sicilian Pizza joint, Prince St Pizza, is closed.  The only pizza to get here is the crab pizza.  The large fold-able slice of heavenly food coma is the one I go with every time.  The crab sauce, fresh mozzarella & panko breaded surimi crab meat is a fat guy’s dream like AYCE chicken nuggets at McDonald’s.  It’s creamy and rich in flavor.  The toasted bottom of the pie gives it a slight firmness.  The thin dough makes it easy to fold and consume in a short period of time.  Now, you could get double the flavor if you decide to fold it.  Just saying.

Overall, ABP is definitely one of the best slices of pie in a city where there’s a pizza parlor on every corner.  It’s a definitely must stop for me whenever I’m in NYC.  It’s flavorful and a guaranteed way to get diabetes.
