I came across this location a few months ago and my buddy confirmed it was still open. It’s located on the corner of San Vicente and Olympic in Mid-Wilshire.
It’s a “cute” little place with a rustic feel on the outside. In addition, the restaurant has vintage dinning tables and a menu full of heaven. The décor is pretty amazing if you look pass the graffiti on the dining tables. I’ve been looking for a Pioneer Chicken ever since I was 11 when I last had it with my grandpa. I’m really hesitant to write this review because I don’t want my favorite spot to get too crowded and prices go up. However, as a true foodie, I have the dying urge to share my discovery.
If you want high end gourmet food, this is the place to go. I ordered the 4×4, which had 4 legs and 4 thighs. The batter on the chicken is amazingly crispy and the skin is cooked perfectly to a golden color. It screams organic and I believe the chicken are raised caged free. I would be careful if I was Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. My only gripe would be the prices are pretty high, but then again you get what you paid for and gourmet is what you get here. In addition, I don’t recommend taking a first date here due to the prices. It’s pretty pricey and only should be saved for special occasions like anniversaries and quinceaneras.
I didn’t get a chance to try the breast or wing because I’m already eating organic chicken and didn’t want to come off as a pretentious douche bag. I’ll definitely try it next time when I order to go, so I could be pretentious by myself. I usually give my dog the bones because he’s a bit of a health freak and only eats organic. I know. He’s a bit of a food snob. I don’t know where he gets his pretentious attitude from.
The service is impeccable and your food is serve right after you order it. It’s like they have pre-made food sitting under a heat lamp. In addition, they have a vintage arcade game in the restaurant. What doesn’t this Pioneer do?
Seriously right? Quick service, top of the line entertainment and organic gourmet food in the heart of Los Angeles? What more can you ask for?
The Bazaar, Spago, Providence, Urasawa, Mastro’s, and Melisse? Please. There’s a new a sheriff in town. I will definitely be a little pretentious and go over my budget next time I’m back and try the chicken breast and wings.
